CAMINO NEOCATECUMENAL / THE NEOCATECUMENAL WAY
The first community in the parish of Most Blessed Trinity of Waukegan was born in March 2009. Currently there are 4 communities.
What is the community? The community is the Church: which is the visible body of the risen Christ. It is born from the announcement of the Good News that is Christ. This announcement is apostolic, which implies “unity and dependence on the Bishop, guarantee of truth and universality”. What is the mission of these communities in the current structure of the Church? “Make visible a new way of living the Gospel today, keeping in mind the deep yearnings of man and the historical moment of the Church.” How is this mission accomplished? “These communities are born and wish to remain within the Parish, with the parish priest to give the signs of faith: love and unity.”
Among the different gifts that the Holy Spirit has aroused on the Neocatechumenal Way, the following stand out: itinerant catechists, families on mission, seminarians “Redemptoris Mater” and communities on mission. This itinerary of Cristian initiation is open to any person who wishes to deepen their faith. To form part of a community people are invited to listen to a series of catequesis given within the parish on an annual basis.
The Neocatechumenal Way was born in 1964 when Kiko Argüello, a painter born in León (Spain), and Carmen Hernández, graduated in Chemistry and trained at the Missionaries of Christ Jesus Institute, met in the Palomeras Altas barracks on the outskirts of Madrid. There, Kiko after going through an existential crisis, and following in the footsteps of Charles de Foucault, went to live for three years among the poorest and discovered in the suffering of the innocent, the mystery of Christ Crucified. In April 1970, the need arose to reflect on the first experiences of the Neocatechumenal Way. In this way, its initiators, together with those in charge, priests and some parish priests of the first existing communities, met to give some basic answers to this new ecclesial reality and that are reflected in the Statute of the same.

La primera comunidad de la parroquia de la Santísima Trinidad de Waukegan nació en marzo de 2009. Actualmente hay 4 comunidades.
¿Qué es la comunidad? La comunidad es la Iglesia: que es el cuerpo visible de Cristo resucitado. Nace del anuncio de la Buena Noticia que es Cristo. Este anuncio es apostólico, lo que implica "unidad y dependencia del Obispo, garantía de verdad y universalidad". ¿Cuál es la misión de estas comunidades en la estructura actual de la Iglesia? "Hacer visible una nueva manera de vivir el Evangelio hoy, teniendo en cuenta los anhelos profundos del hombre y el momento histórico de la Iglesia". ¿Cómo se lleva a cabo esta misión? "Estas comunidades nacen y quieren permanecer dentro de la Parroquia, con el párroco para dar los signos de la fe: amor y unidad".
Entre los diferentes dones que el Espíritu Santo ha suscitado en el Camino Neocatecumenal, destacan: catequistas itinerantes, familias en misión, seminaristas "Redemptoris Mater" y comunidades en misión. Este itinerario de iniciación cristiana está abierto a cualquier persona que desee profundizar en su fe. Para formar parte de una comunidad se invita a las personas a escuchar una serie de catequesis que se imparten en la parroquia anualmente.
El Camino Neocatecumenal nació en 1964 cuando Kiko Argüello, pintor nacido en León (España), y Carmen Hernández, licenciada en Ciencias Químicas y formada en el Instituto Misioneras de Cristo Jesús, se conocieron en el cuartel de Palomeras Altas, a las afueras de Madrid. Allí, Kiko tras pasar por una crisis existencial, y siguiendo los pasos de Charles de Foucault, se fue a vivir tres años entre los más pobres y descubrió en el sufrimiento de los inocentes, el misterio de Cristo Crucificado. En abril de 1970, surgió la necesidad de reflexionar sobre las primeras experiencias del Camino Neocatecumenal. Así, sus iniciadores, junto con los responsables, sacerdotes y algunos párrocos de las primeras comunidades existentes, se reunieron para dar algunas respuestas básicas a esta nueva realidad eclesial y que quedan reflejadas en el Estatuto del mismo.
