Requirements to Baptize at Most Blessed Trinity Parish

  1. Before making any arrangements to set the date of the baptism, parents and godparents must take a pre-baptismal class.

  2. We ask that one of the parents come in person to the office to register for the pre-baptismal class because we have to give you a form, which you need to bring filled out to the class.

  3. The pre-baptismal class is offered the third Thursday of the month at 7:00pm at Holy Family in Room 4. The pre-baptismal class is about three (3) hours long. The pre-baptismal class is valid for one (1) year. After that year parents & godparents must take the class again.

  4. After you take the pre-baptismal class we ask that you come in person to the office to reserve the date of the baptism at least one week in advance with the following documents

  • The blue form signed by the deacon/priest.

  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate issued by the court. It is a requirement     from the Archdiocese of Chicago that you bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate so that the information on the baptism certificate is the same as the birth certificate so that the child won’t have any problems in the future.

  • Certificates of attendance to the class from parents and godparents

  • Donation fee of $70.00 per child. We accept cash, credit cards, and only            accept checks if it is within 30 days in advance. IF YOU DON’T BRING ALL THESE DOCUMENTS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESERVE THE DATE OF THE BAPTISM. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • The English baptisms are certain Saturdays of the month at 9:00 am at Holy Family (No baptisms during Lent). There is a limit of 45 baptisms per Saturday and the date must be reserved at least one week in advance.

  • The Godparents must be 18 years or older, have received the Sacrament of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist), lead a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on. Although the selection of two godparents is customary, only one godparent is required for baptism. A godparent can be either male or female. If two godparents are chosen, one must be male and one female. (Canon 873). Not be bound by any canonical penalty, ex. cohabiting or being just married civilly. If you live with your partner you must be married by the Catholic Church.

  • Children 7 years and older must go through our Religious Education Program. 

  • If the godparents live in another state, they can take the class at the parish they belong to and bring the Proof of the class. If the parents are the ones who live in another state they can do the same, but they also have to bring a letter of permission from their parish so that they can be baptized here.
