Spiritual Communion Prayer

O Jesus! Sweetness of hearts, delight of the spirit, by the bitterness of the vinegar and gall which You tasted on the Cross for Love of us, grant us the grace to receive worthily Your Precious Body and Blood during our life and at the hour of our death, that they may serve as a remedy and consolation for our souls. Amen.
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my wounded heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Our Father – Hail Mary – Glory be… 5X

Creed

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Jonah’s Prayer for Salvation

Jonah’s Prayer for Salvation
Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the belly of Sheol I cried out; you heard my voice!
For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. All your waves and billows passed over me;
then I thought, ‘I am banished from your sight; how shall I ever see your holy Temple again?’
The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round my head.
To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But you raised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!
When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you in your holy Temple.
Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,
but I shall sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comes from Yahweh!

David’s Prayer for Deliverance
Yahweh, how countless are my enemies, how countless those who rise up against me, how countless those who say of me, ‘No salvation for him from his God! But you, Yahweh, the shield at my side, my glory, you hold my head high. I cry out to Yahweh; he answers from his holy mountain.
As for me, if I lie down and sleep, I shall awake, for Yahweh sustains me. I have no fear of people in their thousands upon thousands, who range themselves against me wherever I turn. Arise, Yahweh, rescue me, my God! You strike all my foes across the face, you break the teeth of the wicked. In Yahweh is salvation, on your people, your blessing!

St. Francis of Assisi

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon.

Where there is doubt, faith.

Where there is despair, hope.

Where there is darkness, light.

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.

Alternate Version:

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,

that where there is hatred, I may bring love;

that where there is wrong,

I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;

that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;

that where there is error, I may bring truth;

that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;

that where there is despair, I may bring hope;

that where there are shadows, I may bring light;

that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to

comfort than to be comforted;

to understand, than to be understood;

to love, than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.

It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.

It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life. Amen

Chaplet of Mercy

The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer.

1. Make the Sign of the Cross

2. Optional Opening Prayers

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

(Repeat three times)

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!

3. The Our Father

4. Hail Mary

5. The Apostle’s Creed

6. The Eternal Father

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

7. On the Ten Small Beads of Each Decade

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

8. Repeat for the remaining decades

Saying the “Eternal Father” (6) on the “Our Father” bead and then 10 “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion” (7) on the following “Hail Mary” beads.

9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three times)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

10. Optional Closing Prayer

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Divine Mercy Novena

Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena, saving for the last day the most difficult intention of all, the lukewarm and indifferent of whom He said:

“These souls cause Me more suffering than any others; it was from such souls that My soul felt the most revulsion in the Garden of Olives. It was on their account that I said: ‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass Me by.’ The last hope of salvation for them is to flee to My Mercy.”

In her diary, St. Faustina wrote that Jesus told her:

“On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy … On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls.”

The different souls prayed for on each day of the novena are:

DAY 1 (Good Friday) – All mankind, especially sinners

DAY 2 (Holy Saturday) – The souls of priests and religious

DAY 3 (Easter Sunday) – All devout and faithful souls

DAY 4 (Easter Monday) – Those who do not believe in Jesus and those who do not yet know Him

DAY 5 (Easter Tuesday) – The souls of separated brethren

DAY 6 (Easter Wednesday) – The meek and humble souls and the souls of children

DAY 7 (Easter Thursday) – The souls who especially venerate and glorify Jesus’ mercy

DAY 8 (Easter Friday) – The souls who are detained in purgatory;

DAY 9 (Easter Saturday) – The souls who have become lukewarm.

During the Solemn Novena leading to Divine Mercy Sunday, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy should be offered each day for the
day’s intentions.

Divine Mercy Novena First Day

First Day

“Today bring to Me all mankind, especially all sinners,and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. In this way you will console Me in the bitter grief into which the loss of souls plunges Me.”

Most Merciful Jesus, whose very nature it is to have compassion on us and to forgive us, do not look upon our sins but upon our trust which we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart, and never let us escape from It. We beg this of You by Your love which unites You to the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind and especially upon poor sinners, all enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion show us Your mercy, that we may praise the omnipotence of Your mercy for ever and ever. Amen.

☝ Back to Top

Divine Mercy Novena Second Day

Second Day

“Today bring to Me the Souls of Priests and Religious,and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind.”

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service,* that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard — upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing. For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.

* In the original text, Saint Faustina uses the pronoun “us” since she was offering this prayer as a consecrated religious sister. The wording adapted here is intended to make the prayer suitable for universal use.

☝ Back to Top

Divine Mercy Novena Third Day

Third Day

“Today bring to Me all Devout and Faithful Souls,and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. These souls brought me consolation on the Way of the Cross. They were a drop of consolation in the midst of an ocean of bitterness.”

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasury of Your mercy, You impart Your graces in great abundance to each and all. Receive us into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart and never let us escape from It. We beg this grace of You by that most wondrous love for the heavenly Father with which Your Heart burns so fiercely.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon faithful souls, as upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessing and surround them with Your constant protection. Thus may they never fail in love or lose the treasure of the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of Angels and Saints, may they glorify Your boundless mercy for endless ages. Amen.

☝ Back to Top

Divine Mercy Novena Fourth Day

Fourth Day

“Today bring to Me those who do not believe in God and those who do not know Me,I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their future zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy.”

Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who do not believe in God and of those who as yet do not know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that they, too, together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate Heart.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

*Our Lord’s original words here were “the pagans.” Since the pontificate of Pope John XXIII, the Church has seen fit to replace this term with clearer and more appropriate terminology.

☝ Back to Top

Divine Mercy Novena Fifth Day

Fifth Day

“Today bring to Me the Souls of those who have separated themselves from My Church*,and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion.”

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who have separated themselves from Your Son’s Church, who have squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

*Our Lord’s original words here were “heretics and schismatics,” since He spoke to Saint Faustina within the context of her times. As of the Second Vatican Council, Church authorities have seen fit not to use those designations in accordance with the explanation given in the Council’s Decree on Ecumenism (n.3). Every pope since the Council has reaffirmed that usage. Saint Faustina herself, her heart always in harmony with the mind of the Church, most certainly would have agreed. When at one time, because of the decisions of her superiors and father confessor, she was not able to execute Our Lord’s inspirations and orders, she declared: “I will follow Your will insofar as You will permit me to do so through Your representative. O my Jesus ” I give priority to the voice of the Church over the voice with which You speak to me” (497). The Lord confirmed her action and praised her for it.

☝ Back to Top

Divine Mercy Novena Sixth Day

Sixth Day

Today bring to Me the Meek and Humble Souls and the Souls of Little Children,and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly Angels, who will keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence.

Most Merciful Jesus, You yourself have said, “Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart.” Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all heaven into ecstasy and they are the heavenly Father’s favorites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek souls, upon humble souls, and upon little children who are enfolded in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the love You bear these souls and by the delight You take in them: Bless the whole world, that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

Divine Mercy Novena Seventh Day

Seventh Day

Today bring to Me the Souls who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy*,and immerse them in My mercy. These souls sorrowed most over my Passion and entered most deeply into My spirit. They are living images of My Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the fire of hell. I shall particularly defend each one of them at the hour of death.

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly extol and venerate the greatness of Your mercy. These souls are mighty with the very power of God Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities they go forward, confident of Your mercy; and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but Your mercy will embrace them as they depart from this life.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy, and their hearts, overflowing with joy, sing a canticle of mercy to You, O Most High! I beg You O God:

Show them Your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in You. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to them that during their life, but especially at the hour of death, the souls who will venerate this fathomless mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His glory. Amen.

*The text leads one to conclude that in the first prayer directed to Jesus, Who is the Redeemer, it is “victim” souls and contemplatives that are being prayed for; those persons, that is, that voluntarily offered themselves to God for the salvation of their neighbor (see Col 1:24; 2 Cor 4:12). This explains their close union with the Savior and the extraordinary efficacy that their invisible activity has for others. In the second prayer, directed to the Father from whom comes “every worthwhile gift and every genuine benefit,”we recommend the “active” souls, who promote devotion to The Divine Mercy and exercise with it all the other works that lend themselves to the spiritual and material uplifting of their brethren.

Divine Mercy Novena Eighth Day

Eighth Day

“Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory,and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.”

Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

Divine Mercy Novena Ninth Day

Ninth Day

“Today bring to Me the Souls who have become Lukewarm,and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: ‘Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.’ For them, the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.”

Most compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love, let these tepid souls who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen.

Holy Rosary

The Rosary is made up of twenty “mysteries” which are grouped into four series. The first contains joyful mysteries (recited on Mondays and Saturdays); the second, the mysteries of light (Thursdays); the third, the sorrowful mysteries (Tuesdays and Fridays); and the fourth, the glorious mysteries (Wednesdays and Sundays).

  • Start by making the sign of the Cross
  • Then recite the Creed
  • Then say 1 “Our Father”, 3 “Hail Mary’s” for the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity; and then 1 “Glory Be”

The Rosary is divided into three parts, each having five mysteries. While meditating on the Mysteries, recite for each Mystery:

1 “Our Father”

10 “Hail Mary’s” and

1 “Glory Be”

After each Mystery the “Fatima Prayer” is said.
All together this makes up one decade.
After the completion of the five mysteries (five decades), the “Hail Holy Queen” is said
Make the sign of the Cross
Amen.

Creed

Start by making the sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Then recite the Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Hail, holy Queen,

Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Joyful Mysteries

Joyful:

First Joyful Mystery: The Annunciation

“In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary” (Lk 1:26-27).“The Annunciation to Mary inaugurates the ‘fullness of time’ (Gal 4:4), the time of the fulfilment of God’s promises and preparations” (CCC, 484).

Second Joyful Mystery: The Visitation

“In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!”‘ (Lk 1:39-42).“Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth thus became a visit from God to his people” (CCC, 717).

Third Joyful Mystery: The Birth of Our Lord

“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This was the first enrolment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city.And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn” (Lk 2:1-7).

“Jesus was born in a humble stable, into a poor family. Simple shepherds were the first witnesses to this event. In this poverty heaven’s glory was made manifest” (CCC, 525).

Fourth Joyful Mystery: The Presentation in the Temple

“And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, ‘Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord’) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, ‘a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons”‘ (Lk 2:21-24).“Jesus’ circumcision, on the eighth day after his birth, is the sign of his incorporation into Abraham’s descendants, into the people of the covenant. It is the sign of his submission to the Law” (CCC, 527).

Fifth Joyful Mystery: The finding of Jesus in the temple

“Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it …After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers” (Lk 2:41-47).

“The finding of Jesus in the temple is the only event that breaks the silence of the Gospels about the hidden years of Jesus. Here Jesus lets us catch a glimpse of the mystery of his total consecration to a mission that flows from his divine sonship: ‘Did you not know that I must be about my Father`s work?’ (Lk 2:49)” (CCC, 534).

Sorrowful Mysteries

Sorrowful:

First Sorrowful Mystery: The agony in the Garden.

“Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.’ And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, ‘My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.’ And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will”‘ (Mt 26:36-39).

“Such a battle and such a victory become possible only through prayer. It is by his prayer that Jesus vanquishes the Tempter, both at the outset of his public mission and in the ultimate struggle of his agony” (CCC, 2849).

Second Sorrowful Mystery: The scourging at the pillar.

“Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple robe; they came up to him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ and struck him with their hands” (Jn 19:1-3).“Jesus’ sufferings took their historical, concrete form from the fact that he was ‘rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes’ (Mk 8:31 ), who ‘handed him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified’ (Mt 20:19)” (CCC, 572).

Third Sorrowful Mystery: The crowning with thorns.

“Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him, and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!”‘ (Mt 27:27-29).“It is love ‘to the end’ (Jn 13:1 ) that confers on Christ’s sacrifice its value as redemption and reparation, as atonement and satisfaction. He knew and loved us all when he offered his life” (CCC, 616).

Fourth Sorrowful Mystery: The carrying of the cross.

“And they compelled a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull)” (Mk 15:21-22).“By accepting in his human will that the Father’s will be done, he accepts his death as redemptive, for ‘he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree’ (1 Pt 2:24)” (CCC, 612).

Fifth Sorrowful Mystery: The crucifixion.“And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do’ …It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!’ And having said this he breathed his last” (Lk 23:33-46).

“‘Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures’ (1 Cor 15:3)” (CCC, 619).

Glorious Mysteries

Glorious:

First Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection.

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen”‘ (Lk 24:1-5).“‘If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain’ (1 Cor 15:14). The Resurrection above all constitutes the confirmation of all Christ’s works and teachings” (CCC, 651).

Second Glorious Mystery: The Ascension.

“So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God” (Mk 16:19).“This final stage stays closely linked to the first, that is, to his descent from heaven in the Incarnation. Only the one who ‘came from the Father’ can return to the Father: Christ Jesus” (CCC, 661).

Third Glorious Mystery: The descent of the Holy Spirit.

“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:1-4).“‘Holy Spirit’ is the proper name of the one whom we adore and glorify with the Father and the Son. The Church has received this name from the Lord and professes it in the Baptism of her new children” (CCC, 691).

Fourth Glorious Mystery: The Assumption.

“Henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me” (Lk 1:48-49).“The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body” (CCC, 974).

Fifth Glorious Mystery: The crowning of Our Lady Queen of Heaven.

“And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars” (Rev 12:1 ).“Finally the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death” (CCC, 966).

Mysteries of Light

Luminous:

First Mystery of Light: The Baptism in the Jordan.

“And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased”‘ (Mt 3:16-17).“Jesus’ public life begins with his baptism by John in the Jordan. John preaches ‘a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins’ (Lk 3:3)” (CCC, 535).

Second Mystery of Light: The wedding feast of Cana.

“On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage, with his disciples. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you”‘ (Jn 2:1-5).“On the threshold of his public life Jesus performs his first sign at his mother’s request – during a wedding feast: The Church attaches great importance to Jesus’ presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ’s presence” (CCC, 1613).

Third Mystery of Light: The proclamation of the kingdom of God.

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mk 1:15).“Everyone is called to enter the Kingdom. First announced to the children of Israel, this messianic kingdom is intended to accept men of all nations” (CCC, 543).

Fourth Mystery of Light: The Transfiguration.

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light” (Mt 17:1-2).“For a moment Jesus discloses his divine glory, confirming Peter’s confession. He also reveals that he will have to go by the way of the cross at Jerusalem in order to ‘enter into his glory’ (Lk 24:26)” (CCC, 555).

Fifth Mystery of Light: The institution of the Eucharist.

“Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body”‘ (Mt 26:26).“By celebrating the Last Supper with his Apostles in the course of the Passover meal, Jesus gave the Jewish Passover its definitive meaning. Jesus’ passing over to his Father by his Death and Resurrection, the new Passover, is anticipated in the Supper and celebrated in the Euc

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;

and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;

He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Send from the heavens a ray of Your Light

Come into us, Father of the poor, come Giver of gifts

Come, Light of our hearts, Sovereign Comforter

Very sweet Host of our souls, soothing freshness

Wash what is soiled, bathe what is arid, heal what is wounded

Glory be to God the Father, to the risen Son

To the consoling Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Novena Prayer

Novena Prayer

Lord, you who know the most secret thoughts, You know what concerns occupy my heart in this moment.

I speak to you with confidence and the abandonment of a child, sure that you always answer prayers for the greater good of our souls.

Through the intercession of Saint Genevieve I beg that You grant the current supplication that I bring You (formulate here the intention specific to the novena). I ask you, Father of Heaven, beloved, who lives and reigns with Jesus Christ, your Son, and the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA – Day 1

Day 1 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)

Saint Genevieve, your power of intercession with the Lord is great. At your prayer, God

healed countless sick people and cast out demons, according to the promises of His

Son Jesus Christ, who says to us, “These are the signs that will accompany those who believe:

my name they will cast out demons … they will lay hands on the sick and these will be healed “(Mk 16, 17-18)

These signs were possible because your faith was unshakeable. Intercede with the Lord in my favor: may my faith grow, as yours did, and the intention of this novena, which is so dear to my heart, can be answered (formulate it). I commit myself to nourish my faith now with a more fervent and faithful prayer, in order to advance on the path of holiness and to be an instrument of evangelization in my environment. Amen

(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 2

Day 2 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)

Saint Genevieve, you were only a child when you met Saint Germain, Bishop of Auxerre.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Saint Germain announced that God would entrust you an important mission in the service of your people.

Later, while you were leading a life of prayer and offering as a young consecrated virgin, Saint Germain saw Parisians who were turning away from you in large numbers.

By your prophetic charisma, you had indeed revealed the misdeeds and evils of the perverse and proud. Intercede to the Lord that he give us holy bishops and priests, who are good shepherds for the Christian people, and lights in the dark pagan world around us.

Intercede also for me, Blessed Patroness of Paris, ask the Lord to grant you the intention of this novena (recall it). I renew my promise to be more fervent and assiduous in my prayer. I want to progress on my path of holiness and work through example and action, spreading the Gospel around me. Amen.

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 3

Day 3 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
 Saint Genevieve, you were barely thirty when the Lord used you, a docile instrument, to divert Attila and his barbarous hordes from Paris, and precipitate them into defeat. The Kingdom of the Franks and the emerging Christian civilization were then saved. Lord, bless France, bless my country and all the peoples of the world. Preserve them from the Attilas of today, instruments of the “Murderer of man since the beginning” (JN 8:44), Satan and his legions, who roam the world in order to lose souls. Destroy also in my country, and in myself, all trace of the evil that pushed Attila to spread cruelty, looting and devastation among the conquered. Plant justice in my country and in my heart, the biblical justice that unites men to you, my God. And that men respect the terms of this new and eternal Covenant: the Decalogue and the two commandments of Jesus that summarize the whole Law and the prophets (Luke 10, 25-28). Intercede for me, blessed protectress of Paris; ask the Lord to grant the intention that led me to this novena. I renew my promise to move forward with determination on the path of holiness. Amen.

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 4

Day 4 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
Saint Genevieve, you have been the educator, through trials and sufferings, of your people and its leaders. By your patience, your tears and the light of Christ which you reflected intensely, you ended up being the revered guide of the population of Paris and all the people of the Franks. You were first rejected and persecuted; you have been listened to and followed only at the hour of mortal danger. You have likewise bowed down the pagan king Childeric and you have contributed, by your example and your radiance, to bring Clovis to the Christian faith by the baptism of Reims, whose saint Queen Clotilde was the admirable instrument of the Lord. Intercede with the Lord, Blessed Saint of Paris, to bless the earthly city and its leaders; that they are fully aware that their peoples can only flourish and progress in the light of divine laws; if these inspire the lawshuman beings, the Father of Heaven will be able to bless his children and their enterprises. That is recognized by the people and their leaders the sanctity of politics, which is the implementation of the good in justice and solidarity.
Intercede also for me, blessed daughter of Paris; ask the Lord to listen to the prayer and to grant my novena’s intention (to call her back). I renew my promise to be a best instrument in the hands of the Lord and to announce, by my life, the wonders of Jesus who calls us from darkness to his admirable light. Amen
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 5

Day 5 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
 Saint Genevieve, you have leaned with mercy and tenderness on the outcasts of your time, the poor, the condemned, and the prisoners, over all those whom life crushed. You got them rescued, comforted, restored to hope. You have never separated faith from works, knowing that
“without works, faith is utterly dead” (JC 2, 17). Our century, who dreamed to eliminate all distress by “Science and Progress”, without reference to the Almighty God, ends with the heartbreaking spectacle of huge crowds of outsiders of all kinds, witnesses of the failure of a proud humanity that has forged its own laws, away from the Gospel that recapitulate and restore all things in Jesus Christ. May your example illuminate and impregnate the souls of our contemporaries and our leaders, so that they may inspire in their lives and action, imperishable principles of the Gospel. So will the Kingdom of God be proclaimed and realized in the earthly city, at the dawn of the third millennium AD. Intercede to the Lord, St. Genevieve, who is an example of justice and solidarity, so that my heart opens fully to the active love of neighbor; that I learn mostly to to show tenderness to the poor and to share my possessions with the needy, giving them the tithe required by Scripture: “Of all that you will give me, I will pay you faithfully tithe “(GN 28, 22) Ask the Lord to fulfill the intention of the novena that is so dear to my heart (the call back). So may I grow in his love and make better known around me the story of salvation in Jesus Christ, the only Savior of the world. Amen
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 6

Day 6 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
 Saint Genevieve, the Lord has granted you the charism of healing. You are one of the big thaumaturgists in the history of salvation in Jesus Christ, the only Savior of men. By your your hands, your prayers, and your tears, the Lord has healed countless sick and infirm; many demons have been driven out by your intercession. In our world where the sick abound, and where the hold of Satan and his legions seems more terrifying than ever, intercede for us with the Lord. May he grant us unshakeable faith as has been yours, so that new and many miracle workers will rise up among the people of God to spread, in the Church and throughout the world, the healing of bodies and souls, and drive out the powers of darkness who “roam everywhere like lions seeking their prey to devour them “(1 Pet 5, 8) Also ask the Lord, blessed saint, to grant my novena and to grant me the grace that I solicit with all my heart (to recall it). I renew my promise to grow in faith, through prayer and the offering of sacrifices that I will consent to glorify the Lord and help him in the conquest of souls. Amen.
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 7

Day 7 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
Saint Genevieve, you who have experienced a great veneration for many Saints, such Saint Denis, first bishop of Lutetia, martyred in the 2nd century, and Saint Martin, the bishop of Tours, one of the most popular saints in the history of the Church, intercede with the Lord for our time to rediscover fully the exemplary value of the saints. God alone being holy, the holiness of men is to reflect the unique holiness of God. Some do it with a such intensity that the Church proposes their example to the faithful. Through the long procession of saints, one can recognize with wonder how far the reflection can go, by the souls, of the one holiness of God. So the saints have become both models and stimulants for men immersed in battle and earthly trials. Intercede with the Lord, you who have known how to imitate the example of other saints that inspired you with their life, that Christians, who have hidden the exemplary power of the saints, and saints appeared like stars in the firmament of centuries, rediscover again their value and their function, the saints strengthen in faith and lead to the summit. Your own example brings many souls to progress on their path of holiness, drawing inspiration from your love of the poor and infirm and your energy in the service of the Kingdom of God. Also intercede with the Lord to hear my prayer during this novena (recall the intention); I pledge to grow in the spirit of prayer and offering, in the imitation of your life as well as the life of saints whose example will challenge me. Amen
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 8

Day 8 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
 Saint Genevieve, who, like the Lord, was “sweet and humble of heart” (MT 11:29), intercede with God so that these essential qualities in the building of the Kingdom of God, spread in the world, and more particularly within the Church. These virtues Gentleness and humility were, throughout your life, bathed in tears; you had, indeed, the rare gift of tears that visibly testified to the nobility of your spirit and the very delicate sensitivity of your heart, fruit of your unconditional love of your neighbor.You could not be so by drawing from the love of God the strength and perseverance of charity “that never ceases” (1COR 13, 8). Intercede with the Lord, grant me the virtues of gentleness and meekness I am still lacking so much, in my conformation to Christ Jesus to which I must tend in my Christian life. Also intercede, holy venerated, so that the Lord here fulfills the intention that made me undertake this novena (recall it). And that this brings me many graces, especially that of progressing more quickly on the path of holiness. Amen.
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Day 9

Day 9 (remember to say the Invocation to the Holy Spirit and the Novena Prayer)
Saint Genevieve, you who had an infinite love of the Eucharist, through which the disciples announce the Lord’s death until He comes (1 Cor 11:26), intercede with God so that I, in my turn, fully discover this treasure of the treasures that is the Eucharist; it communicates to us, in the being of Jesus who is its substance, the whole content of the mystery divine by which we have access to God the Father, in the Flesh and Blood of his Son, by whom we are redeemed. You spent whole days and nights sunk in the mystery of the Eucharist, supreme gift of divine love. That I now eat the most often possible of the Eucharist in which the Church is built up. And that I do not separate this food of the one given to me by the Word of God. Fortify my soul day by day with this food in which the Lord communicates to me his own life; that mine become all thanksgiving and anticipation of happiness in Heaven. Also intercede with the Lord to hear my prayer, the subject of this novena its end (call it back). I pledge, once again, to grow in the spirit of prayer and offering, to become myself an eternal offering to the glory of God, as you yourself are in the splendor of the one holiness of God that all your life reflects so intensely. Amen
(say the Final prayer)

ST. GENEVIEVE NOVENA Final Thanksgiving Prayer

Final Thanksgiving Prayer
Lord, do not let me go of your love, continue to purify me and protect me! Without you, I am nothing; never deprive me of your grace. My soul is thirsty for your presence, “my heart and my flesh are a cry to you, O living God “(Ps 83, 3)  Through the intercession of Saint Genevieve, grant me the grace I have requested throughout of the novena. I am sure of being answered, Lord, because I love you with all my heart, my soul, above all, knowing that you are doing all things for the good of those who love you “(RM 8,28)  So if you could, for reasons that only you know, give me all that I ask, I know that you will give more to those I love and to myself, because you grant always a hundred times what your children ask, for their greater good. Amen
