Eucharistic Adoration

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

The Holy Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ

We do not currently have perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. We need an army of brothers and sister willing to pray daily asking our Lord for our parish to start with perpetual Eucharistic Adoration.

Eucharistic worship consists in our active participation in the Mass, culminating in holy communion and our public and private adoration of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Visiting the Blessed Sacrament should draw us deeper into the Paschal Mystery and strengthen our desire to lead lives as sharers in the death and resurrection of the Lord.

Eucharistic Adoration helps to make reparation for sins committed, especially by irreverence to the Most Blessed Sacrament

We must strive for a sound catechesis on the theology of the Eucharist.

Eucharistic Adoration helps to foster spiritual growth in members, as individuals and families, by practicing in their daily lives the Eucharistic faith.

Eucharistic Adoration helps us to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life and to invoke Divine protection and grace for the clergy, religious and all those preparing for the Lord’s service

Eucharistic Adoration helps to increase devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Eucharistic Lord, the first to bear His Real Presence in the world, and the Mother of all whom He has called to be His brothers and sisters

The parish community seeks the opportunity to meditate more deeply on the mystery of the Eucharist, to adore the Lord, and to grow in holiness in their relationship with the Lord and as a community.

Are you ready and willing to spend at least one hour a week before the Blessed Sacrament?

If you are unable to be present on any particular occasion, it shall be your responsibility to arrange for another person to take your place.

As an adorer your name will be inscribed in the register of Eucharistic Adoration.  To withdraw from your commitment to Eucharistic Adoration you will need to do so in writing, then your name will be removed from the register.

Any member of the Eucharistic Adoration who does not fulfill the obligations accepted upon membership except for reasons of health and or other extenuating circumstances may receive a written warning and if a satisfactory explanation is not forthcoming, may be expelled. Likewise, anyone who has abandoned publicly the Catholic faith, or has incurred excommunication cannot be a member of the Eucharistic Adoration; any member who, after being received into the Eucharistic Adoration, falls into one of the just mentioned conditions is to be dismissed from the Eucharistic Adoration immediately

instructions

  1. Pick your adoration hour from this list by clicking on the corresponding link.
  2. You will be taken to the registration page where you should enter you full name, a good email and phone number and in the comments box you will also have an opportunity to indicate if you are able to substitute for other adorers and at what times, or if you are able to help with coordination and scheduling, and if you have special needs or need help with transportation.
General Information

Your commitment to adore is a blessing from the Lord.
➢ Each time you adore you “must” sign-in.
➢ It is important that each hour be covered.
➢ The Blessed Sacrament must never be left alone.
(You are the committed Adorer and Guardian of the Eucharist at your hour.)
The procedure to follow when you cannot make it to the chapel at your assigned time:
a) Contact the people who are assigned to adore at the same hour you are. (Let them know you will not be there.)
b) If this fails you should try to get a substitute.
c) If you cannot get a substitute you should contact your Hour Coordinator or the assistant Hour Coordinator.
d) If you are not successful with a, b, or c, contact your Sub-Captain.
e) If all else fails, contact the Captain.
(Please note: Prepare for your obligation to always be in the chapel at your assigned time by choosing someone to contact your Hour Coordinator should you suddenly be taken ill or called away for an unforeseen emergency.)
Become familiar with the Adorers who adore at your hour on the other days of the week. You may find it necessary to switch days for some important reason during the year. You should be able to depend upon each other because of your valuable commitment to the Lord.
Read ! Pray ! Read ! Pray ! ! Increase your spiritual reading. Pray for:
The Pope, the Church, Our Priests and Vocations, The Family and the Right to Life, Prayer Requests of our community, Our Country and Our Leaders, All Souls, And that which weighs heavily on your heart.
Encourage others to sign-up for adoration … even to become occasional adorers.
Write your petitions to the Lord in our “Petition” book.
Write your testimonial of favors and gifts received in our “Testimonial of Favors” book.
(Every now and then a testimonial may be published. You never need to sign your name.)

Guidelines For Chapel Conduct

Respect for Our Lord is displayed in the following ways:
† Genuflect upon entering the presence of the Lord.
† Be mindful of proper, respectful attire.
† No talking, maintain an austere reverence in the presence of Our Lord. If you need to talk to someone in the chapel, leave the chapel and hold your conversation outside.
† No spontaneous unscheduled events or sermonizing is allowed. Adoration is a peaceful, private time for each adorer.
† Never eat or drink in the chapel. Chewing gum or candy is not respectful either.
† No radios, No CD or tape players and No cellular phones are to be used in the chapel.

Rules For Chapel Conduct

The following Chapel Rules are to be observed by all adorers.
1. Please remember to sign in for your hour of adoration at the beginning of your assigned hour. That way the person before you will know that you are in the chapel and they are now at liberty to leave.
2. Check the sign-in sheet before you leave the chapel to make sure the person who is scheduled for the next hour is in the chapel before you leave. If the person after your hour does not show up and you choose to be the substitute for the next hour, sign your name on the sign-in sheet and put the word (substitute) after your name. This will let the Hour Coordinator know an unscheduled absence took place which he needs to know so it does not happen to you again next week.
3. Nothing is to be placed on the altar of repose, do not touch the altar nor the monstrance.
4. Spiritual reading material provided is never to be removed from the chapel. Personal copies may be obtained by contacting the Parish Librarian.
5. No material of any kind is to be placed in the chapel unless authorized by the pastor.
6. Know the procedures for contacting a substitute or making emergency calls.
7. Miscellaneous
a) What is proper etiquette during Eucharistic adoration?
We should be praying silently. Whenever we pass before the place where the sacred host is reserved, we should genuflect. We should observe the modest dress and decorum that are appropriate to very solemn occasions. We should avoid any actions that might disturb or distract others or draw attention to ourselves rather than Jesus.

Maintain Reverent, Prayerful Silence.
Musical instruments, singing, vocal prayer (even praying the Rosary out loud while
others are present praying silently) are not permitted. (Vocal prayer in the main Church). Maintain silence. Do not bring anything to adoration that will make noise. If you bring a phone, set it to vibrate or turn it off. If the phone vibrates, decline or ignore the call. Adorers should be careful not to unnecessarily scandalize others and should refrain from noise-making activities (e.g., knitting, wearing sound-making ear pieces, typing on a keyboard).
Can I bring my kids to adoration?
Yes! Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” (Mt 19:14) However, as parents, we do need to be mindful of the atmosphere of silent reverence in the adoration chapel and above all, charitable to the other adorers and visitors. If our children are not able to maintain silence and other adorers are present, we should remove our children from the chapel after a very short visit and return when they are able to be silent. Another complicating factor is that if parents with small children are the only ones in the chapel they must remain in the chapel until another adorer comes, so the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone. This may present practical difficulties. If children are brought to adoration, they should be mature enough to understand that they must remain silent and still. If they squirm or whisper (or worse), they should be taken out. If you’re bringing them to “visit Jesus,” stay only as long as they remain silent and still. Because small children may have to be removed at a moment’s notice, they should not be brought along with an adult who is fulfilling a scheduled adoration commitment. Get a babysitter or do not volunteer as a scheduled adorer.
Only clergy should go up to the altar.
Do not go up and touch the altar or the monstrance. Please venerate Our Lord from a short distance. (note: in certain situations when directed by a member of the Clergy, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion may repose the Blessed Sacrament).
Please do not use cell phones, pagers, electronic devices. Adult adorers are permitted to have these devices for emergency use only and only in silent/vibrate mode. Under no circumstances should children or teens have any hand held email/web devices, small computers, cell phones, pagers, electronic games/toys, or other electronic devices in the adoration chapel.
No food or drinks. Do not bring food or drink to adoration. Under ordinary circumstances, if you need water then wait until someone else is present and then step outside the adoration chapel for a drink.
Can I bring books to adoration?
Yes. It is wonderful to do spiritual reading, either from Sacred Scripture, the Liturgy of the Hours, publications like Magnificat, Catholic spiritual reading, the Catechism, Church documents, but one should not bring a large number of books or papers that would cause excessive noise that might disturb other adorers. Some regular adorers bring a pen/note pad to jot down inspirations or resolutions that come to them during their Holy Hour, again here, the same general rule applies – keep it simple, limit excessive material things that may cause distractions, keep the focus on Our Lord.

Emergency Procedures: Finding A Substitute For Someone Who Does Not Show Up For Their Hour And Other Serious Emergencies

To All Adorers—Remain Faithful !

1. If you become sick during your hour or need advice, call the Hour Coordinator for your hour. (All important telephone numbers will be posted)
2. If the person that is to relieve you does not show up and you cannot stay on for an extra hour, call the Hour Coordinator for the hour following yours.
3. If you cannot reach your Hour Coordinator then call your Sub-Captain.
4. If you cannot reach the Sub-Captain then call the Captain.
5. If an emergency of a serious nature arises … call the appropriate emergency numbers that will be posted in the Adoration Chapel.
6. Hopefully, you will not require our assistance but we are available to you should you need us. Please do not hesitate to call us.

Sacramental emergency

…serious issue of an intruder or visitor profaning or threatening the Blessed Sacrament, the altar, etc., any accident affecting the altar/monstrance: call the rectory

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of snow, ice, or other serious weather that would pose a concern for safe driving,
adorers should follow our normal guidelines for obtaining a sub, assuming that some among those contacted may live closer to the Church and be able to make it over safely. Adorers should not put themselves at risk on the roads in unsafe conditions. In such cases the Pastor, Parochial Vicar, Deacon, or an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion who is on
the premises/ closest to the chapel would repose the Blessed Sacrament until the roads clear. The Captain will notify all coordinators and adorers that Adoration is canceled. Adorers should not assume that because school is canceled or Government offices are closed, Adoration is canceled. You will be notified via email/phone by one of the coordinators if
adoration is canceled, otherwise please assume it is “on.”

Eucharistic Adoration adorer organizational structure

Captain adorer

A Captain accepts overall responsibility for the entire adoration program and he/she is responsible to the Pastor to ensure that all aspects are correctly observed according to Canon Law and the wishes of the Pastor.

Four Vice-Captain adorers

Vice-Captains adorers are responsible for each of the four time groups:  Early morning 12 AM – 6 AM, Morning 6 AM – 12 Noon, Afternoon 12 PM – 6 PM, Night 6 PM – 12 Midnight. Each Vice-Captain is responsible for the 6 hours within their time zone. In addition to these responsibilities, the Vice-Captains adorers will assist in all aspects or assume responsibility when necessary.

24 Coordinator adorers

A Coordinator adorer is responsible for one of the 24 hours of the day every day of the week and ensures that there are adorers for each hour of the day, everyday, throughout the week. A Coordinator adorer is to continue to inspire and motivate adorers and solicit new adorers. A further responsibility is to find a replacement for an adorer in an emergency situation. In the event that the Coordinator is unable to obtain a replacement, he/she should cover the hour in question. Each adorer of a specific hour is supplied with the phone numbers of other adorers and the Coordinator.

Assistant Coordinator adorers

Each Coordinator adorer should choose some reliable adorers who are able to assist whenever the Coordinator adorer goes out of town or cannot be reached to find replacements. The Assistant Coordinator adorer is a back-up person who can be a big help to the Coordinator adorer.

Adorers

An Adorer dedicates an hour before our Lord in adoration for a specific hour during a specific day of the week. In case of illness, every effort must be made to find a replacement before calling the Coordinator. It is well to remember that a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. An Adorer forms a link in an endless chain of adorers on behalf of the whole Parish.
